Finnish Veeti Selmgren to play for SG Quelle Fürth U19s Bayernliga

From Finland to England to Germany, Veeti Selmgren climbing the ranks to play in top Bavarian U19 division

17-year-old Veeti Selmgren of Espoo, Finland, has been playing at the highest youth level in Finland for most of his career but with the young defender's sights set on the big European stage, he embarked this Spring on his journey to Germany after spending three months at the high-performance Fleetwood Town FC International Academy (in England). In May Veeti arrived to Nürnberg to join the Pro 30 Day program in Germany  , where Veeti trialed with SG Quelle U18s and U19s and for FSV Erlangen-Bruck U19s. “I experienced different levels of football here, but overall the level and intensity were really high here. In the end I felt like SG Quelle U19s was the right fit for me” Selmgren stated. Selmgren was offered a roster spot to play for one of the top U19 teams in the state of Bavaria, SG Quelle Fürth who compete in the U19 Bayernliga, the 2nd highest youth division just below U19 Bundesliga. Selmgren and Quelle will face tough opponents including some pro clubs in their division this season such as Jahn Regensburg and Greuther Fürth.

Quelle Fürth, also know locally as The “Dambachers” closed this summer transfer window with a lot of new additions from sides like SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Nurnberg. The new signings of players with pro club experience will be an important factor in solidifying Quelle's position in this top Bavarian youth football division. The squad led by new Head Coach Zafer Sivetaglu has had a series of friendly matches the past several weeks where Veeti had opportunity to show his masterful technique and creativity on the ball. He is a very active player, always moving and trying to create opportunities, and with the ability take players one on one.

With Veeti's acceptance of the offer to compete for SG Quelle's U19s for the coming season, he transitioned also into our Pro IFX Year program which gives access not only to high-level soccer training and competition with his new club but provides furnished housing, study of the German language, and full support and guidance for the season with his football and studies in Germany.

“I’m really happy with everything at SG Quelle, coaching is great and my teammates have taken me in well. Obviously some things are a bit challenging with the language barrier but my teammates have been teaching me some important football terms in German. I'm also looking forward to when my language studies with IFX begin so I can learn to communicate even better. I'm really excited about the new season starting and getting to see how I match up against other players in the Bayernliga” Veeti stated.
