“Train with multiple teams with different styles of training and to see how the game of soccer is the same yet totally different”
I returned home after being away a year in Schweinfurt Germany. It was the most brilliant experience of my life to date, a time where I experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows. The experience away from home was a time for me to grow up and find a way to live and pursue my dream.
Kira Schwartz, left, was an IFX scholarship winner and competed with the 2nd Bundesliga club, FFC Oldesloe in Lübeck, Germany for the 2008-9 season.
Over the course of my stay I played for SV Alemannia Mariadorf, competing in a top regional youth division of the U19s called Landesliga. We typically trained Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays where I was continuing to earn a place in the team. I got on with all of the kids on the team and they were all thrilled when I scored my first goal against Troisdorf which plays in the Bundesliga for youth.

During the month of January I lived in The City of Leuven and played football for Oud-Heverlee Leuven (OHL) of the Belgian 2nd Division. I enjoyed a memorable cultural and football experience. OHL feature a very professional setup, which is highlighted by one of Belgium’s top youth systems. Culturally, Leuven, which resides in the Flemish speaking region of Belgium, offers centuries of tradition and history.
