Thüringen, Germany - For many young American players, the dream of playing soccer abroad is just that - a dream. But for Jaxon Sellar, born in 2007, it’s a reality he’s been living and thriving on for more than a year. Jaxon joined the Soccer City Boarding School program in Germany with one clear goal: to gain European experience and play at the highest level possible. Now in his second year, he’s not only adapted to life overseas - he’s excelling.

A Strong Start in Germany

“The transition has been good,” Jaxon shares. “Very different in most aspects, but it has been a great experience.” Like many young athletes who choose to play soccer abroad, the biggest challenge was being away from family and friends. But Jaxon’s maturity and focus have helped him overcome those hurdles. This season, he’s playing for 1. SC Göttingen 05 U19, a partner club of Soccer City. “It’s my second year of U19 and it has been great - we’re 9 games undefeated,” he says proudly.

Development on and off the Pitch

The level of competition in Germany has pushed Jaxon to grow rapidly. “The speed of play and physicality here are intense,” he explains. “Since coming here, my speed of play and defense have improved the most.”

But it’s not just his game that’s evolved. “Soccer City has made me a more mature person and a more motivated player,” he says. His daily routine is a testament to his commitment: morning training, school, lunch, afternoon sessions, and team training at night.

His coaches play a vital role in shaping both his technical skills and character. “They help me become a better player and overall person,” Jaxon notes.

Goals and Vision

Jaxon’s short-term goal is clear: “I want us to remain undefeated and go as far as possible in the Pokal.” Long-term? “I want to be playing at the highest level possible, no matter where I am.”

His advice to other young players considering the leap to Europe: “It’s definitely a great experience. You learn a lot as a player and mature very fast as a person.”

Building a Soccer Career in Europe

For Jaxon, playing in Europe isn’t just a phase - it’s a dream in motion. “Playing in Europe is a dream that any kid has,” he says. “Building a career here would be a dream come true.”
