Nürnberg– SSV Jahn Regensburg is a German association football club founded in 1907 and based out of the historic city of Regensburg, Bavaria. The club has mostly played within the bottom end of the professional spectrum in Germany and is regarded as an elevator club between the bottom professional tiers.

Early history

Throughout the early 2000’s the club would compete mostly in the Regionalliga Süd (at the time the 3rd tier in Germany). The clubs highest success came at the conclusion of the 2002-03 season where they finished runners-up in the Regionalliga Süd and earning promotion to the 2.Bundesliga. This success was short lived and amidst financial uncertainty, the club was ultimately relegated to the Bayernliga (thenfourth tier). SSV Jahn would then go on to win the Bayernliga outright that season and earn promotion back to the Regionalliga Süd for the 2007-08 seasoon.

Jahn Regensburg knew that it would need to finish in the top 10 if it wanted to retain its 3 tier status as the federation reorganized the leagues. Jahn would finish 9th and successfully joined the new formed 3.Liga where it would remain for the next 4 seasons. At the conclusion of the 2011-12 season SSV Jahn would face off against Karlsruher SC in a two legged playoff for entry into the 2.Bundesliga. The home and away tie finished 3-3 on aggregate with Jahn Regensburg advancing on away goals rule. Jahn would finish bottom of the table at the end of the season and relegated back to the 3.Liga where it would compete until the 2015. The club presently competes in the Regionalliga Bayern, the fourth tier of the German football pyramid.

New Era

The club opened ground to a new stadium (Continental Arena) at the start of the 2015-16 season. Although the club presently competes in the Regionalliga Bayern (fourth tier in Germany) it has high hopes to promote back to the 3.Liga. The club fields a reserve squad, which presently competes in the 5th tier Bayernliga.

German-American Jann George completed a transfer from 2.Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Fürth at the beginning of the season as an offensive reinforcement.
