Canadian Pro Striker Tristan Watson transfers to Germany’s ASV Neumarkt



If Bayernliga side ASV Neumarkt looks to turn their fortunes around during the 2nd round of the 2013-2014 season, a lot will depend on Canadian Tristan Watson knack for scoring goals. Watson joins Neumarkt after previously competing in Poland with MKS Orlicz Suchedniow during the 2013 season, where he registered 4 goals and 2 assists. Additionally, Watson has competed with Toronto Astro Vasas FC and Mississauga Eagles Football Club of the Canadian Soccer League, where he registered 19 goals respectively. After his brief stint in Poland last Fall, Watson was brought by IFX Soccer to the Nürnberg region where he underwent soccer trials with two German clubs, ASV Neumarkt as well as Bayernliga’s SC Eltersdorf, ultimately receiving offers from both clubs for the remainder of the 2014 season.

Collegiately, Watson competed with The University of Cincinnati (NCAA Division 1) during the 2009-2011 seasons. While at Cincinnati, Watson scored 18 goals and 7 assists; Including recording his team’s lone goal in a 2-1 Big East Semi-Final Loss to Providence, played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. Before joining the Cincinnati bearcats, Watson was a prolific goalscorer in the Junior College ranks, where he found the back of the net 29 times for Lakeland CC and Genesee CC respectively. During the offseason, Watson was a member of the Cincinnati Kings of the USL-PDL (Premier Development League) where he registered 14 goals and 4 assists. The USL-PDL division is effectively the 4th tier of soccer in North America and recognized as a feeder for many aspiring professionals.

ASV Neumarkt presently find themselves in a heated relegation battle, sitting on 18 points and good for 16th place in the table. Watson could make his first official appearance on the 18th of February as they travel to TSV Kareth-Lappersdorf in the 2nd qualification round of the Verbandespokal. ASV Neumarkt opens up the 2nd half of the Bayernliga season at home to 12th place VfL Frohnlach on March 8th, with kick off scheduled for 3PM.
