IFX’s Brendan Ruiz completes move to SpVgg Weiden.

Brendan Ruiz has successfully passed his trial with SpVgg Weiden of the BayernLiga.  Ruiz, joined our Pro IFX 30 day trial program this past April in search of securing a new club. Brendan comes to Germany after having a short spell with Major League Soccer (MLS) side Sporting Kansas City back in 2013. Prior to his deal with Sporting Kansas City, Ruiz, featured for 2 seasons with Brazilian club Figuerense in the youth divisions.

Right place at the right time

Persistence and timing can be noted as two major factors that can influence the outcome of how deals can come (-or break) into fruition. Ruiz, who spent the latter part of last season on trial with Regionalliga Bayern club 1.FC Schweinfurt can be an example of how timing did not influence a decision in his favor. The club was in the midsts of maintaining its place in the standings, slightly above the relegation zone, and the addition of player would not have been appropriate at that time as the club was not even sure how the season would end up.

Although the outcome did not come favorable for Brendan, what he left was a lasting impression on then assistant coach (and former Bundesliga professional)  Tomas Galasek. Galasek would then become the head coach at Weiden ahead of the 2015-16 campaign and naturally Brendan would fit into his plans. Galasek enjoyed a successful playing career, playing 6 seasons with Ajax, 2 with 1. FC Nurnberg, and finally with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Seligenporten vs. Weiden

Last weekend, SpVgg Weiden came away with a strong 0-1 victory against the home favorite SV Seligeporten, bringing them out of relegation zone after a modest start to the season. SV Seligenporten, last year’s Regionalliga Bayern demotee, currently sits in 3rd place with 13 points. Brendan Ruiz, playing a full 90 minutes, displaying a strong performance at left back, with an especially solid second half, closing down the desperate Seligenporten attack down the right flank. IFX Alumni Thomas Mallette came in as a second half substitute anchoring the midfield.

SpVgg Weiden vs. FC Amberg – German Pokal

The hotly contested Oberpfalz derby between Regionalliga FC Amberg and SpVgg Weiden drew close to 1000 fans on August 18 at Weiden´s home pitch. Weiden fought a tough match but their inability to create scoring chances and Amberg´s conversion of two enabled Amberg to pull away with a 0-2 result. Brendan Ruiz started again at left back again with a very strong performance before being subbed out in the 74th minute. Amberg´s away victory brings them one step closer to qualification into the Deutscher Pokal where they will compete against Bundesliga clubs for a chance to win the German Cup.

We wish Brendan all the best in the upcoming season.
