U17 IMG Academy soccer defender Kyle Frudakis joins 1. FC Frankfurt (Oder) of U17 German Regionalliga

Frankfurt (Oder), Germany – In early August, 15 year old Kyle Frudakis, from Bradenton, FL, USA, arrived in Germany for the first time to begin his Youth Year IFX Germany program. Frudakis, a former U15 Academy player at the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida, had high hopes for a successful  year of developing his game in the land home to the World Champions of football, Germany.

Prior to Frudakis’ arrival in Brandenburg, Germany, IFX organized for him to trial for 2 weeks with one of the top youth teams in all of Brandenburg, 1. FC Frankfurt, who were last years champions of the U17 Brandenburgliga, and as such were promoted to the second highest U17 youth division in the country, the U17 Regionalliga Nordost. This league is comprised of many big name Bundesliga clubs from northeastern Germany including FC Hansa Rostock, FC Erzgebirge Aue, Hertha BSC, SG Dynamo Dresden, FC Rot-Weiss Erfurt, 1.FC Union Berlin, FC Energie Cottbus, RasenBallsport Leipzig as well as several other top clubs from the region.

Frudakis took part in their intensive pre-season from early to mid-August including a 8 day Trainingslager (training camp) located outside of Dresden. After making a good impression despite being a younger birthyear player than many on the squad, Frudakis was offered a roster spot for the 2014-15 season. But whether or not he would be getting significant game time would depend on his performance over the course of the next several weeks.

Fortunately, a combination of strong training performances by Frudakis and some unexpected injuries, led to Frudakis starting their first league match and playing the full 90 at outside back. Despite a 1-2 defeat by Hallescher FC, Frudakis showed that he could compete at this high German level. Since then, Frudakis has started every match including this past weekend’s fixture against one of Berlin’s top club’s FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf, where they pulled away with a 2-1 victory.

Kyle continues to work hard day in and day out with his club as well on his other program obligations including high school, learning the German language, and spending time with his German host family.
