The Four Year Plan (2011)

The Four Year Plan is a documentary directed by Mat Hodgson based on Queens Park Rangers – a London based football club that has bounced between the Barclays Premier League or simply the “Premier League” and the Championship– the 2nd tier of the British football pyramid.

The powerful film captures the underlying nature of big business opportunity as it chronologically follows the club on the verge of bankruptcy in 2007 through a take over lead by a consortium of billionaires (Bernie Ecclestone, Flavio Briatore, Alejandro Agag, Amit Bhatia) with a target to promote to the club to the most lucrative league in the world-the Barclay Premier League. The name is derived from this target goal “Four Year Plan.”

The documentary is shot through a back office lens as it captures the changes discretely as an invisible person in the room would only notice. Hostile, fast paced and brutally honest would adequately describe the nature of the film that took home the best documentary award at the 2011 Marbella International Film Festival.  It’s a must watch for football enthusiasts as well as business professionals looking to get an inside scoop of running a professional football organization at the highest level.
