MLS ANNOUNCES ORLANDO CITY SC AS THE LEAGUE’S 21st EXPANSION CLUB

ov 19th 2013 – MLS commissioner Don Garber announced and welcomed the Orlando City SC to Major League Soccer with play set to begin in 2015. Orlando City SC has previously competed in the USL Pro division, effectively the 2nd/3rdtier of Professional soccer in North America, where is has distinguished itself a top club having won the leagues supporters shield in 2011 and 2012 (best overall record) as well as a league championship trophy in 2013.

Orlando City will join the league at the same time as the league’s 20th franchise, New York City FC. Orlando City will play the 2014 season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex before moving to the Citrus Bowl to open up their MLS campaign before opening up their brand new downtown soccer specific in the Spring. This marks the first time that MLS will field a club in the state of Florida since the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay Mutiny were dissolved in 2002.
