Californian Transfers German Regionalliga After A Successful Fall Campaign

Native California Bay Area standout striker, Colin Davis, of San Ramon, and formerly a Ballistic United MLS Next Academy player last season, recently signed for Würzburg’s top club Würzburger Kickers after a successful Fall campaign with 1. FC Eichsfeld U19s.

Last summer, with his sights set on someday playing professional soccer, Davis set out for a one month training/trials opportunity (Pro IFX 30 Day) with IFX Soccer based in Nürnberg. During his month abroad, Davis left a strong impression with both scouts and trainers of various IFX partner clubs, leading to Davis' signing with IFX partner club 1.FC Eichsfeld and the Soccer City residential academy for the Fall season.

Based in Lengenfeld unterm Stein in Thüringen, Soccer City is a residential soccer boarding program, and partner of 1.FC Eichsfeld, providing long-term football and education opportunities for aspiring footballers from Germany and abroad. Players ages 13-17 live in the Soccer City residence, go to school at local German high schools, and compete for the various youth teams of 1. FC Eichsfeld where they gain unique experience and exposure through week-in/week-out competition in the official German league system.

Davis quickly integrated into the defending state champion 1. FC Eichsfeld U19s, racking up an impressive 9 goals in 7 games for the U19s, and 9 goals in 11 games for the Eichsfeld semi-pro men’s team throughout the Fall, including as a substitute in front of 1403 fans during a German Cup match against Regionalliga club Rot-Weiss Erfurt.

"I think the best things I experienced at Soccer City and Eichsfeld was the experience I got with playing with the U19, Second and First team. Getting so much game time and minutes really helped me develop as a player. Soccer City helped me to become mentally stronger, transitioning to something I’m not used to."

Living in the Soccer City Academy with other ambitious and talented young footballers was a first for Davis, and going to German high school was also a completely new challenge for the 17 year old senior in high school. But with a very keen focus on his objectives, Davis made a good transition to his new environment, progressing quickly with his German knowledge, and adapting to the German style of play.

After proving himself to have the quality and work ethic to potentially play at higher levels, IFX and partners Soccer Career Consulting, organized trials this Fall with various pro Bundesliga and German clubs including Chemnitzer FC, Lokomotiv Leipzig, Carl Zeiss Jena, and finally Würzburger Kickers.

After showing well on his trials with multiple clubs, it was a deal with the Bavarian powerhouse club Würzburger Kickers that came together late in the winter transfer period for the young striker.

"My experience with the trials was good. I got to see a few clubs and see the level, difference in levels and see where I fit the best. It was good to see pro set ups and different academies."

Würzburger Kickers is a traditional German club, based in Würzburg, Germany, and from 2015 – 2022 competed in the 2. and 3. Bundesliga until relegated to the Regionalliga in 2022. Kickers currently sits on top of the Regionalliga table vying for the promotion spot back into the professional German 3rd division.

"I’m very excited to sign with Würzburger Kickers and get started this spring season in Bayernliga and my goal right now is to start scoring goals and hopefully build my way up into the first team! As far as the overall process it’s been all sorts of ups and downs, you get set backs, you get confidence from scoring goals, but in the end it’s pushed me to develop so much better into the best player I can be and it’s really drawn me a better path to become pro."

Davis, a 2006 birthyear, will be fighting to rise to the top of Würzburg’s U19s this season, who compete in the 2nd highest U19 German division, Bayernliga. Without a reserve team, Würzburg’s mens team utilizes some of their top U19 players which would present Davis with excellent experience eventually if he were able to break into the first team. He will be up against experienced professional striker Saliou Sané, former professional with 2. and 3. Bundesliga experience and currently leading the squad with 12 goals and netted 21 last season. Other talent up front includes Benjika Caciel, a strong young talent in his 4th season in the Regionalliga after transferring from VfB Stuttgart’s U19 Bundesliga Academy team.

Whatever the future may bring, Davis has made a great step forward in his young career as a footballer and we will surely be hearing more in the weeks and months to come and will be keeping IFX fans abreast of his Spring campaign! We wish Colin and Kickers the best of luck in the Rückrunde!
