Nürnberg, Germany – For Karl Holle, a soccer player from Bayside, NY, the decision to take his game abroad was driven by passion and ambition. His German football journey began with a desire to explore a new style of play in a completely different atmosphere. "I love the game," Karl says, "and I wanted to learn a new style of play in a whole new atmosphere. Germany, being one of the most respected soccer countries, was the best way to do it."

From New York to Bavaria: A Foundation Built in the U.S.

Karl’s early development came through two competitive clubs in New York: N.Y. Hota Bavarian, where he played as a left back in the EDP North Atlantic League, and SC Eintracht, which won the NY State Championship and reached the National Semifinals. Playing with older teammates headed to college soccer helped Karl mature quickly. "I learned to play faster and stay calm on the ball," he recalls. "The older players gave me knowledge that still helps me today."

First Steps in Germany: IFX Youth Summer Camp

In 2024, Karl joined the IFX Youth Summer Camp in Bayern, a two-week immersion into German football culture. "My biggest takeaway was how much skill there is here," he says. "Playing against a second division youth team like Neumarkt was motivating - their passion for the sport was inspiring."

The experience convinced Karl to return in 2025 for a full-season placement, facilitated by the IFX Soccer program in Germany. IFX made his international clearance quick and easy, and he joined SVG Steinachgrund U19, competing in the Bezirksoberliga Mittelfranken, a respected fourth-tier youth league known for its intensity and professionalism.

Life in Nürnberg: Independence and Growth

Karl now lives in Nürnberg with other Pro IFX players, sharing an apartment and studying German at an IFX partner language institute. "The environment is great," he says. "We hang out, do activities, and support each other - it makes the time here really fun."

But the transition wasn’t easy. "You no longer live with your family. You have to learn to cook, manage money, and make the right decisions for your body off the pitch," Karl explains. These challenges have helped him grow beyond football, learning real-world skills like transportation, budgeting, and time management.

Competing in the U19 Bezirksoberliga Mittelfranken

"Fourth division youth in Germany is no joke," Karl says. "Every team takes it seriously." His experience with SVG Steinachgrund has been positive, even if results haven’t always gone their way. "I was welcomed with open arms, and they already trust me as a player." He credits his team captain, Finn, as a source of inspiration. "He motivates not just me but the whole team. He plays like it’s his last game - that’s leadership."

Goals and Advice for Aspiring Players

Karl’s goals are clear: "Become the best player I can and work every day. This time can’t go to waste." He’s focused on development, whether his future lies in Germany or back in the U.S. "I want to be the best teammate possible and help build chemistry and success." His advice to young players dreaming of playing abroad? "Don’t miss out on the opportunity. This is a chance to make your game better and grow as a person. It’s a big sacrifice, but if you dream it, don’t let distance or fear hold you back."
