FEUCHT, GERMANY – PRO IFX YEAR GERMANY

IFX newcomer Martin Pletz is a forward hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steel City native was last a member of the Lock Haven University Men’s Soccer Program and initially signed in Germany with BSC Erlangen (netting 3 goals in 3 matches). Pletz came to terms with top Landesliga club SC Feucht in May for the 2013-14 season. Pletz has had several appearances already this summer, including a start in their DFB Pokal (German Cup) match against rival Bayernliga side ASV Neumarkt. In a heated match, Pletz netted a spectacular header off a long cross from a set piece on the right flank. The 6’4″ striker towered over the defender and placed the ball perfectly over the Neumarkt keeper. The match ended a 2-2 tie where Neumarkt miraculously defeated Feucht in penalties even after 3 brilliant saves from the Feucht goalkeeper.

Pletz joins us after completing a stellar offensive collegiate career that earned him countless PSAC Player of the Week honors, PSAC All-Conference First Team selection, Daktronics All-Region as well as being named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Team. During his senior campaign, Pletz was second on the team in points, netting eight goals, including three game-winners, with five assists for a total of 21 points on the season.

On Pletz: a target forward with great physical presence that has a knack for goal. Great in the air and can combine well with his back to goal. A constant threat off set pieces… utilizes his pace well on counter attacks. Pletz on German trials: “I really enjoy the style of the German game, the technical ability and tactical awareness of the players is definitely a strength. It has certainly been an ongoing process in getting acclimated with the new culture and style of play and training. I’m happy that I have been able to adapt and am looking forward to the challenge of playing with 1. SC Feucht next season.”
