U.S. national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann named to the FIFA Coach of the Year shortlist.

Jurgen Klinsmann notably guided the US Mens National team thru the Group of Death and into the Round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Klinsmann can be said to have gone beyond the boundaries of the playing field; it can be noted that he has been an important figure head for the American community when advancing the development of Soccer in the United States.

Klinsmann made Pre World Cup headlines as he omitted the US Mens National Team golden boy Landon Donovan off his World Cup Squad; while including then 18 year old youngest Julian Green of Bundesliga side FC Bayern München (albeit his role at the club was mainly with the reserve squad, competing in the Regionalliga Bayern). Green would later go on to score a goal during the competition.

Notable exclusion to the FIFA Coach of the Year Award shortlist would be Jorge Luis Pinto. Pinto guided the Costa Rican National team on their inspiring tournament run. Los Ticos eventual bowed out in a penalty-kick shootout loss to the Netherlands.
