Development Soccer Year in Germany
Alberto & Gianluca Valle | FC Union Mühlhausen season 2025-26

Mühlhausen, Germany – For brothers Gianluca and Alberto Valle, soccer has always been more than a sport, it’s a lifelong journey of growth, sacrifice, and ambition. Born in the United States and raised in Ecuador, the Valle brothers are now experiencing a true Development Soccer Year in Germany, training and competing through the Soccer City German Soccer Boarding School and playing with FC Union Mühlhausen.

From Ecuador to Europe: A Journey of Commitment

Gianluca began his soccer journey at just 4 years old, training with friends, his brothers, and his father. His first club in Ecuador taught him the basics, but it was at Liga de Quito, one of the country’s top teams, where he refined his tactical, mental, and technical skills as a midfielder. Alberto followed a similar path, spending eight years in a private club before also joining Liga de Quito, where he learned the importance of discipline and positioning.

After their time in Ecuador, Alberto spent a year in Orlando playing MLS Next with Idea Sport Academy, gaining valuable match experience and exposure. Gianluca, meanwhile, was inspired by a one-week trial at Soccer City, where the intensity and professionalism of the training convinced him to take the leap to Europe.

Life at Soccer City: Structure, Discipline, and Development

Now living and training at Soccer City, the Valle brothers are immersed in a structured environment that emphasizes both athletic and personal development. Gianluca describes the daily routine: technical training after school, team sessions focused on tactics and fitness, and evening physical workouts. Alberto adds that Mondays and Wednesdays include three sessions, while Tuesdays and Thursdays combine club training with gym work.

This intense schedule has helped both players train consistently, improve physical fitness, and master the basics of European football. Living independently has also taught them responsibility — from cleaning their rooms to managing homework and language study.

Adapting to German Football Culture

Playing youth soccer abroad has exposed the brothers to new styles and expectations. Gianluca, currently a central midfielder (number 8), notes that the game in Germany requires faster decision-making due to constant pressure. Alberto, now playing as a left back, highlights the shift from long-ball physical play in Ecuador and the U.S. to Germany’s more technical, possession-based approach.

Their roles on the pitch reflect their adaptability: Gianluca focuses on creating chances through precise passing and dribbling in the final third, while Alberto attacks space, delivers crosses, and defends aggressively in 1v1 situations.

Goals and Growth

Both brothers have clear short-term goals. Gianluca aims to score and assist as much as possible while giving his all in every match, hoping to move up to a higher-level team. Alberto wants to win the league with FC Union Mühlhausen and continue contributing offensively and defensively.

The Soccer City German soccer boarding school has played a crucial role in their transition to European football, helping them understand what coaches expect and how to perform at a competitive level. The program’s coaches push players to their limits, preparing them not just for the game, but for life.

"Try to have the best time possible," Gianluca advises. "It can be difficult at first, but it becomes fun as you make friends and grow."

Alberto adds, "Take risks and give your all. Success doesn’t come easily, you have to sacrifice and improve every day."
