ERLANGEN, GERMANY – PRO IFX YEAR GERMANY

After several appearances with FSV Erlangen-Bruck’s reserves, IFX’s Jonathan Faerber got his first call up to Bruck’s first team and debuted last weekend against Bayernliga foe SC Eltersdorf. Eltersdorf controlled the match for most of the first half, converting a deflection to go ahead 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

Eltersdorf continued to move the ball fluidly in the second half, with good combination play in the offensive third, leading to their second goal by Arpad Backens, a beautifully taken shot from 40 yards out curling well past 6’4” Faerber’s stretching arms and landing in the right upper v to go ahead 2-0… For the next 10 minutes, Bruck maintained strong possession and created a few scoring chances, ultimately drawing a penalty after a controversial double no-hand-ball call by the ref who first overlooked an Eltersdorf hand ball in the box, then a Bruck hand ball on a clearance.

The Eltersdorf keeper then came in cleats up to foul and oncoming Bruck attacker. The penalty was poorly taken and initially saved by keeper Alexander Schulz but was followed up and converted for the Bruck troop by Oguz Aytan in the 83rd minute. Minutes later, a midfield mistake by Bruck led to a quick counter and short breakaway for one of the Bayernliga’s leading goal scorer, Michael Jonczy, who slotted a clean shot past Faerber to go ahead 3-1. Jonczy’s shot keeps him in the race for Bayernliga Torjäger with 9 goals on the season.
