Through the support network of IFX Soccer, he was able to secure trials and ultimately connect with SV Gutenstetten, where he now trains and competes.

His first impressions were immediate. "Everything is very structured — positioning, timing, and tactical awareness are key," he says. "Off the field, players are expected to take responsibility for their own development.”

Testing Himself in Adult Competition as an U19 Player

Although still eligible for the U19 level, Calvin has been integrated into the U23 squad, exposing him to adult football earlier in his development and placing him in a more demanding competitive environment. "The game is faster, more physical, and decisions must be made quicker," he explains. "There is less time on the ball, and positioning becomes more important."

Training and competing alongside older players has pushed Calvin out of his comfort zone and accelerated his adaptation. It’s an experience that places him in direct contact with the demands of senior football, where mistakes are punished faster and consistency becomes essential.

Having already faced similar situations earlier in his career, Calvin has embraced the opportunity to measure himself against more mature opposition. "I like the challenges," he says. "My goal is to keep progressing and eventually reach the first team level.”

Adapting to the German Game

One of the biggest adjustments has been the tactical discipline of German football. "There is a strong emphasis on teamwork, structure, and pressing," Calvin explains. "We build from the back and move forward as a team."

Beyond tactics, the physical and mental demands have also increased. Training in colder conditions has pushed him to develop greater resilience. "I’ve learned to perform even when conditions are not comfortable and to stay consistent in every situation."

Life Abroad: Growth Beyond Football

Living in Germany has required Calvin to adapt quickly to a new culture and lifestyle. Without the support of family nearby, he has had to become independent — managing daily responsibilities while maintaining a professional routine. "Living abroad has made me more disciplined and responsible," he says. "It has strengthened my mindset."

His weekly schedule reflects that commitment. Daily gym sessions are combined with tactical training, technical work, and recovery routines. Off the field, he focuses on nutrition, rest, and improving his language skills to better communicate with teammates and coaches.

Focused on the Next Step

Calvin approaches this stage of his journey with clear intent. In the short term, he aims to earn more playing time, contribute consistently, and establish himself as a reliable presence in the team.
"I want to improve my impact in matches and help the team achieve strong results," he says. "I want to earn the trust of my coaches."

Looking ahead, his goals extend beyond youth football. "I see myself playing at a higher level and entering the professional game," he says. "I want to keep improving and take every opportunity to grow.”
